Our sister company, Europac3D, were invited to demonstrate 3D scanning equipment at the British Geological Survey in Nottingham recently as the institution continues to 3D digitise their geological catalogue.
The BGS provide expert services and impartial advice to inform the UK Government, industry, academia and the public and hold a comprehensive library of fossils and geological specimens.
Using the Artec Spider for accurate image, colour and texture capture, we scanned a specimen containing Trilobites from the Ordovician Age, originally discovered in Shropshire. The resulting file can be rotated fully in 3D and experienced from a variety of angles and zoom levels – ideal for inspection and educational purposes.
The images left and below show a solid model render and the finished full colour file.
